Let there be light! Box

I made a light box! I workshopped a few titles for this post: “I have finally seen the light. Box.” and “Blinded by the light. Box” and while they are all terrible and not even puns, I am happy with my choice. I trust you find it hilarious? No?

I`m getting sidetracked. I scoured the internet (ie. looked on Pinterest) for a DIY light box tutorial and after finding several hundred and looking at the first two I saw, I made one and I LOOOOOOOVE it! How have I not done this sooner? Gone are the days when you can look at my pictures and think to yourselves “Look how dirty her windows are,” “That laundry in the background needs folding,” “Is that a diaper? On the kitchen table? Get yourself together woman!” Actually, those days aren`t gone because the light box is fairly small and try as I might, I can`t fit Thomas in it so you will still be able to sneak peeks at the disarray that is our home in countless pictures – but my crafty things will look pretty!

Check this out!

Not bad for a cardboard box, dollar store tissue paper, bristol board and a clamp light!

This looks better that this

I like this image much better than the original in the previous post.

I`m on the fence about this one. Ha! Get it? Because of the fence prop!

Look at these regal fellow. What do deer have to do with necklaces you say? Nothing! Nothing at all! It`s just fun to play with props!

Oh deer! A hunter must be in our midst.

I blame this guy. I think he may have been jealous as he was left out of the lightbox photo shoot. Poor Buzz.

The next step will be to change out the backgrounds to add a little more colour because looking at all these images posted here, it is lacking any vibrancy. I will experiment and show you the results. I know that you are all (and by you I mean my dad and sisters whom I force to read this blog by sending endless texts asking what they thought. I am so lame.) holding your breath and waiting on the edges of your seats so I will do this with my usual attention to timeliness – see you in February!

    • I`m addicted to the light box. It was so easy to make and makes my pictures look soooo much better. You already take lovely pictures but for smaller items, it may be useful. Can`t wait to see your results!

  1. Ooo this light box idea looks brilliant – the photos are great, especially the coffee filter flower (which by the way if v cool in itself!). I could really do with one of these too to photograph stuff – do you have a link to a tutorial you followed? Love your blog, have subscribed on google reader.

    • Thanks for the follow and the great feedback! I used this tutorial for the box. I just used white tissue paper to cover the open sides and I lined the inside of the box (after cutting the windows out) with white duct tape then used a sheet of white bristol board to line the back and bottom. The flower was from this tutorial from Aunt Peaches who makes excellent flowers. Be prepared to be quickly bored to death with all the pics I take in the box!
