Sleep in heavenly peace

Well, well, well. Looky here! Look who`s decided to show her face around blog town again. Miss me? (I`m basically talking to Taryn, Holly and my sister here – thank you my three readers-xo). School is putting a real damper on my ability to do anything fun BUT tonight I got an unexpected early evening off so I rushed home from Surrey Memorial (and by “rush” I mean that I drove at about 40km/h over the Alex Fraser bridge, the very bain of my existence of late, white knuckles on the steering wheel, yelling “Stop driving so close to me! Go around! Go around dammit!” to those tailgating me) and made it home just in time to fit in the bedtime routine with Thomas.

Bedtime routine involves two stories and two songs. I`m pretty strict on the two stories but only because a five-page story read to a three-year old, can take upwards of 25 minutes once you`ve answered a question after EVERY. SINGLE. SENTENCE. If I agree to another story, we`re still up at 2am debating the finer points of Goodnight Moon and everyone is really cranky-pants in the morning. He can generally weasel three to four songs out of me though and herein lies the problem: I don`t know that many songs. We`re both beyond the classics at this point. Twinkle, Twinkle and Hush Little Baby are so 2011. He`s sick of my medley of all the songs I remember from Annie. I recycle Over the Rainbow and Rainbow Connection to the point that I`m annoying myself now. Andrew threw the theme song from Cheers into the mix and that`s been a big hit for the past couple of months. The Facts of Life song is hit or miss, depending on the day he`s had. Sometimes I`ll just get out “You take the good, you take the bad…” and he`ll put his hand up and say “NOT THAT ONE!.” Alright, sheesh. Tonight was an eclectic mix of Silent Night (I`m not ready to take the christmas songs out of rotation yet as they make up the bulk of my songbook), The Sun`ll Come Out Tomorrow and Yesterday by the Beatles. Just as I got to the door I was called back for an encore so I wrapped things up with a little Willie Nelson (Blue Skies). I think he gets more bored to sleep than lulled but, hey, whatever works.

Blue skies, smiling at me. Nothing but blue skies, do I see.

  1. Also, that was me, Jenn. Computers are hard. Baby Beluga really is a good one, Mary and Frances both loved it. When I think about it….it may have been more like 5 years, every night…

    • I knew it was you, it shows your email address! I`ve done a couple of nights of baby beluga and I`m not so sure I could strecth it to even three months. 5 years? ugh.

  2. I sang Baby Beluga EVERY SINGLE NIGHT for THREE YEARS.

    • Baby Beluga!!! I forgot about Baby Beluga (he even sleeps with a Baby Beluga so I don`t know how that got past me?!?!?). Thanks! (and sorry for you, that must have made you as crazy as The Midnight Ride of Thomas the Tank Engine makes me).
